illumebydesign luminaires are a range of unique, handcrafted pendant lights designed and proudly produced in Byron Bay, Australia. Often drawing inspiration from the natural world in this especially beautiful locality, Brad’s designs are simple yet elegant organic forms made from clay or blown glass…sometimes both. Driven by a deep belief in sustainable practices, you will also find pendant lights created from recycled or repurposed objects in the illumebydesign collection. All our clay products are made with low temperature fired clays and sealed with a 100% natural, nontoxic sealer. Low temperature fired clays create less carbon emissions in both the pre-heating of the kilns and firing process.
A percentage of all illumebydesign clay luminaire sales goes to Hope Starts Here, an on the ground group who cook meals and serve them to those living rough. Their weekly feeds often have volunteer hairdressers cutting hair, people working to source accommodation or other gracious offerings for those struggling.
We also offer the individual design and fabrication of customised luminaires and chandeliers. Many of illumebydesign one-of commercial lighting designs utilising site specific paraphernalia and found objects in their creation, which subtly reflect and promote the business’s brand and philosophy. sustainable accountability
illumebydesign has a strong sustainable approach to well, everything we do. From the materials we choose to work with, to our energy supply, right down to our packaging and mode of shipping and transport. Our material choices result in pretty much next to no wastage, our clay kilns are run on 80-85% solar and the 3D printing facilities runs on 100% solar power. We also use non-toxic natural clay sealers, and source as much of lighting components locally. All flights are carbon offset via a non-for-profit tree planting organisation, and our delivery vehicle is a hybrid EV. We are very conscious of the choices we make and how they impact the planet and our community.
